It’s amazing what we’ll do when we’re backed into a corner and fear presses us in from all sides. When I met Jessica for the first time I was excited to cover her work in the pro-life movement. I didn’t realize that the depth of her experience came first hand from her own journey. With so much working against her I only had compassion for what she had been through. What would you do if you faced an unplanned pregnancy and your boyfriend, his mother and your mother are all pressuring you to abort your child? It’s an impossible situation with apparently no way out. But with God we are reminded that all things are possible. For Jessica, the conception of her first child and the tempest that rapidly engulfed her life changed everything. I partnered with the Marian Fathers of the Immaculate Conception to produce this story for their EWTN show, Living Divine Mercy available at: DivineMercyPlus.org.
In our walk with God, doubt and disbelief are all part of the wrestling process of interior growth especially when there seems no hope at all. Once in a while I simply cannot hold back the tears when I conduct an interview with someone because I am amazed at what is being related to me and my conversation with Jessica was one of those times. The beauty of our humanity often shines forth from the most unlikely of circumstances and corridors in this ‘valley of tears.’ Perhaps that’s why we need hope so much. As for Jessica, I can’t imagine anyone more deserving of hope for her future. I’m so grateful I got to know this amazing woman and hear her say the words of truth and wisdom; “He makes beauty out of ashes.”
